Your New Business Needs A Website

Show the world who you are and what you stand for

Many small business owners pour endless hours into tangible things: the storefront, supplies, furniture and decor, the list goes on and on.

However, one of the most important facets of your business is something that you cannot touch: your online presence.

Your online presence should be one of the most vital aspects of your business plan, and having a website is arguably the most important part of this.

We suggested in our recent podcast the importance of having at least a one-page landing page online when you are ready to launch the website. A landing page can consist of the following:

  • The name of your business
  • What you are offering to your consumers
  • Contact information (address, phone, email, physical location)
  • Photos of your shop or products
  • Links to your social media profiles (which I’m sure you already have in place)

Why is it so important to have a simple website online?

It gives you a head start on Google.

Search engine optimization is incredibly important to your online presence. Search engine optimization is the ongoing practice of designing your content and website in a way that allows web search engines (like Google, Yahoo, and Bing!) to easily comb through your content, and feeding these engines content in a way that allows your business to pop up ahead of competitors on organic search results.

From a local standpoint, this will push searchers to your store by allowing them to find your information quicker and easier than others.

From a regional or worldwide standpoint, this allows users to find you while searching for products and services you offer and other related industries.

When you’re forming your new business, we suggest include keyword research and SEO in your marketing plan to get a heads up on the SEO game.

With 29% of small businesses not having a website, these businesses aren’t gathering ANY traffic from search engines, which means you have an even bigger leg up on the competition!

It proves your legitimacy

We all know the story: we hear about a new business, we’ve seen their new sign and yet, they have no website. While not necessarily sketchy, it may look funny and it may communicate with your potential customers that you’re not taking your business seriously enough.

By having a website from the get-go, you’re able to show your audience that you’re an actual business ready to take their money!

Having a pleasurable web presence boosts your conversion rate as well. 91% of customers have visited a store because of an online experience (Wanderful). 38% of people will stop engaging with a website if the content/layout is unattractive (Adobe). It takes consumers .05 seconds to form an opinion about your website from the first look (Gitte Lindgaard, Gary Fernandes, Cathy Dudek & J. Brown). Finally, 54% of consumers say lack of contact info on a site makes them look less credible. (Komarketing).

It can communicate your brand even before they step foot into your door.

A website is an incredible tool to show people your mission, values, and what you stand for. By developing a beautiful website that reflects your business well, you’ll be able to begin somewhat guiding your customers in how they should feel about you and your business.

Do you want your business to exude fun and youth? Then pick a design that’s full of fun micro-interactions and animations. Do you want to show off your wisdom and professionalism? Then show people with serif fonts, clean lines, and impressive copy.

I’m sold. Where should I start?

For a simple and easy one page website, Magicbird suggests Squarespace.
